You may remember hearing this before but here is a further statement that the Iranian government helped the US against Al Qaeda, and Bush refused detente:
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iVp6OcsznLJpeFv8SenE_EhxIpmgD93LU4IG0This makes perfect sense, considering that the Sunni splinter insurgents known collectively as Al Qaeda today have always been enemies of the Shi'ite Iranians.
Remember the televised candlelight vigils of sympathetic Iranians after 9-11?
The US attitude towards Iran (not just by Bush and the neocons, but supported by all the democrats who suckle at AIPAC's teats as well) reminds me of the classic bit from Bill Hicks, with Jack Palance cast as US foreign policy. (
I could only find it as part of a longer clip, at about the middle.)
PS. Speaking of Iran, you should watch Persepolis if you get a chance, it's charming and educational, even though I know one important thing which is wrong about the beginning of that movie (not mentioning the coup against Mossadegh).
